Tour Details

Pradiz Russia Tour OperatorThe Elk Bio Station reserve covers an area of pristine greenery on the Russian capital’s outskirts. It is located within Moscow limits and is easy to visit after a tour of the city’s main center-located landmarks. It features a community of friendly elk and is a pioneer of ecotourism in Russia.

Elk dwell alone or in small groups and are often reluctant to stay in sight of humans.  But at the Elk Bio Station they can be seen ranging throughout the day.

Caring staff will give you insight into the life of elk and tell you what it is to look after them. On your 1.5 hour tour of the biostation you will see and play with the elk. See films in English about elks and their life, and also drink steaming Russian tea in a cozy environment of the Russian forest.

The reserve makes part of a large cluster named Elk Park, known in Russian as Losiniy Ostrov, one of the world’s largest city parks, sharing the podium with Pedro Branca in Rio and Table Mountain  in Cape Town. As a whole,  the park counts 44 kinds of mammals and 170 bird species, 9 amphibian species, 5 reptile species and 19 fish species.

The diversity of the species and the sheer beauty of their natural habitat have always lured the minds of the Muscovites. Before being converted into a 116 square kilometers nature reserve, the area used to be a chase for the Muscovite nobles and royals. Right now it preserved its high status, and is one of the best locales to experience ecotourism in Russia. It is a retreat of choice for those locals and tourists who feel drawn towards amiable calm and peace of the Russian countryside and forest just a short ride away from Moscow bustling routine.

To get to the Elk Reserve you will meet your guide in Moscow center, and take a ride on one of a suburban regular train bringing you to the station closest to the Elk Reserve; the train fare is 70 roubles. Afterwards, enjoy the picturesque landscape out the window of your comfy taxi on your way to the Bio Station, the price of which is about 500 roubles.
